Work toward ending crimes against women in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua City in solidarity with organizations in Cd. Juárez and Chihuahua City that provide support to the family members of the femicide victims. Assist these organizations to seek grants and external funding to support their struggles to obtain justice, truth and transparency from their government.
Since 1993, more than 550 women have been murdered in Ciudad Juárez, the sister city of El Paso , Texas . Of these deaths, Amnesty International states approximately 130 have been sexual-torture killings of young women, ages 12–19. Local groups however, report a higher number of femicides. Four-hundred and fifty more women are missing and the crimes have spread to Chihuahua City . The fear of violence is present for all of us. We must act collectively and join our efforts as one community in seeking justice and creating social change to stop the violence against women. Amigos de las Mujeres de Juarez has been supporting the women of Cd. Juárez since 2001. We have helped the families by providing emotional and financial support to their groups through fundraising efforts, donations, and outreach. We have organized worldwide and local protests on numerous occasions. We have gone to Cd. Juárez for weekly and monthly meetings with family groups, human rights groups, government organizations and advocacy groups. We have developed a wide network of international organizations and actively work with and inform them of on the ground initiatives led by our Mexican partners.
As of May 1, 2008, Amigos de las Mujeres de Juarez is no longer doing direct fundraising. Instead, we are trying to establish a direct link from donors to the organizations. The Mexican organizations that we support continue to do incredible work with very limited resources. We have personal contact with these organizations on a regular basis and can deliver your donation to them personally, since Mexican mail is sometimes not reliable.
